PROJECT
George Rydell Constructions were engaged to construct a new dairy processing factory and café extension at Caldermeade Farm in Victoria. The project was done in two stages, so as the works did not interrupt the existing café trade or farm activities.
Stage 1: The dairy processing factory was built using precast concrete panels with commercial steel roof. Internally the building consisted of cool rooms, freezers, cheese maturation rooms, hot rooms, loading dock, process floor and bio airlock.
Stage 2: Renovation of the old café bar area and amenities to accommodate the increase in building size, with the existing bar area transformed into a wine and cheese area.
DETAILS
At the front of the factory is a new administration building and staff amenities area with the factory floor finished in a striking blue polyurethane with a focus on clean hygienic design and construction.
Also included in the stage 1 works was the extension of the existing cafe, tripling the size and capacity of the Café. With polished concrete floors and plenty of rustic timber finishes, the café fits in nicely with the new landscaping and interactive farm experience. The key design feature was the 13m wide frameless viewing window between the café and process floor, which allows customers to view the production of the Caldermeade boutique dairy products. GRC guided this window design through the fire engineering process to ensure the intent of the window was not compromised by fire safety whilst still complying with the regulatory body.
