Woolworths – Brunswick - George Rydell

CLIENT: Woolworths Ltd

LOCATION: Brunswick

PROJECT

George Rydell Constructions were awarded the contract for the $3.5m extension and renovation to the Woolworths Store at 300 Albert Street, Brunswick.

The store is located over the old Brunswick tip site and first opened its doors in 1998. So, for the past 20 years the store had been operating with no change to the internal décor – until May 2018, when we undertook the project to extend the building footprint forward towards Albert Street.

DETAILS

There were many challenges with this project as the nature and history of the site meant that footings were engineered to a depth of 14 metres. Large trusses were used to minimise columns obstructing the counter area which also enabled the shopfront to be opened up to allow natural light to filter through the store. The building works along with the extensive renovations took place without interruption to store trading hours.

Apart from the store works, we also undertook much needed civil works within the carpark including the regrading and resurfacing of the asphalt.

Upon completion of the project George Rydell Constructions has received exemplary feedback from both the local customers as well as Woolworths management.
